Calcium Carbonate raises the pH of your mash. Use in the mash for making dark beers in areas of soft water. Use a nomagraph and monitor the mash pH with pH test papers to determine how much to add. - 1/2 tsp per gallon before fermentation will lower acidity approximately 0.1%


Calcium carbonate is used for the reduction of acid in wine which will raise the ph. it first reduces tartaric acid so care and dosage should be taken to prevent complete reduction of tartaric acid. half teaspoon in 1 gal reduces acid by 0.1 pH unit.


calcium carbonate also known as chalk, is used to raise the pH of the mash when making beer. approximately two-thirds of an ounce to 1 barrel ( 31 gallons ), will increase calcium content of the mash by 50 mg per liter
