Flaked barley is used to add a full mouth feel and fermentable sugar to beer with very little flavor addition. it is widely used in dry stouts such as Guinness. flaked barley needs to be mashed with diastatic grain in order to convert the starches in The barley flakes to get the full effect of this adjunct.
